The keynote address at Valley City State University's (VCSU's) 118th Commencement exercises will be delivered by Distinguished Alumnus Dee (Johnson) Jensen '66. The exercises are scheduled for 10:00 am Saturday, May 15 in W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse on the VCSU campus.

Dr. Steven Shirley, president of VCSU, said, "Dee has been a tremendous supporter of VCSU and we are very pleased that she will deliver the keynote address. As an educator and as a coach, she has touched hundreds of students with her well-known tenacity and competitive spirit. She has a very positive message for sending off our graduates as they launch their careers or continue their education in graduate or professional schools."

Jensen graduated from VCSU in 1966 and taught at the North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS) from 1974 until 2006. She established the women's track and field program at NDSCS in 1975 and led it until its final season in 2002, winning 10 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XIII championships and seven individual national championships along the way, and coaching 42 All-Americas and 95 All-Region XII athletes. She was named Region XIII Coach of the Year 10 times, NJCAA Women's Coach of the Year in 1986 and was inducted into the NJCAA Hall of Fame in 1998. The OJ and Dee Jensen Track in Wahpeton was recently named after Dee and her late husband Owen '65. Dee was recognized with VCSU's Distinguished Alumni Award in 2000.

In this year's exercises, 153 undergraduates are eligible to participate. Also eligible to participate are 39 students in VCSU's online Master of Education program.

The public is invited to attend the ceremony and a reception that immediately follows.
